Darjeeling first Flush and Second Flush

Darjeeling

India is one of the largest tea countries in the world next to China. India is known for its beautiful black teas, but is now also starting to rise in green, white and oolong teas.

Because India has such a large area and you can write a book about the tea of India, we limit ourselves today to the Darjeeling area.

Darjeeling is located high in the North East and lies at the foot of the Himalayas. Darjeeling tea is grown at the foot of the Himalayas. The humid and cold climate, as well as the height of the tea plantations make the Darjeeling tea a real pearl. Depending on the harvest, the Darjeeling tea has a floral or slightly spicy taste and a delicious astringent and fresh nutmeg scent.

Darjeeling First Flush

The Darjeeling First Flush, or the first pluck of the season, is considered the Champagne of black teas. This tea is specially flown over to guarantee the unique quality of the tea.

The Darjeeling First Flush is picked from mid-March to the end of May and is done entirely by hand. The green color of the First Flush leaves comes largely from the soft rolling of the first picked leaves. To prevent the oxidation of the leaves, the leaves are dried immediately after rolling. So the process is not at all similar to a typical black tea.

You can make a perfect cup of Darjeeling tea with 2 gr of tea with filtered water at a temperature of 90°-95°. Enjoy the beautifully floral character of the Darjeeling First Flush.

Darjeeling Second Flush

The Darjeeling Second Flush, or the second pluck of the season, remains a beautiful tea specimen with slightly more body and a spicier taste.

The harvest of the Second Flush runs from the end of May to June and has a slightly darker character.

Like the other later plucks of the Darjeeling, the leaves are rolled under high pressure for about 45 minutes and then oxidize further for 2 to 3 hours. The oxidation of the tea ignores an amber-colored tea with more body and a less floral character, but is certainly not inferior to the First Flush.

You can also brew this Darjeeling with 2 gr of tea with filtered water at a temperature of 90°-95° to enjoy a cup of tea with more body and a spicy character.
